What Is The Wonder?

A Wonder Guide in a yeti costume and ski goggles, pouring from a pink toy teapot

Picture all of the best parts of school and growing up — recess, adventure, mysteries of science and history. Pizza. Magic. The InBetween before you cross into adulthood. Fireflies. Bubbles. Ant farms. Double Dutch.

The Wonder is more than any one location. We are about building the confidence that only comes from trying something new, and the serious business of figuring out what you love.

Why Are We Like This?

Well, because we are passionate about finding our way through the forest. Not the traditional kind. The forest of screens and devices and tech overload at every turn. Artificial Imagination.

Our founder Sarah Robinson understands navigating these woods as a creator but more importantly as a mother of 4. The Wonder at heart is a combination of joyful, colorful physical spaces with curated classes, memorable events and parties that get uploaded as core memories.

We encourage every member to try a little of a lot (see also: love it vs. learn it). The Wonder learning is about having fun — with friends and family.

Meet Our Fanged, Feathered and/or Furry Faculty

To be able to exceed the highest standards set by the most prestigious academic and developmental institutions, we knew we needed help. Lucky for us, we have friends.

We have assembled, quite frankly, the most elite educators in the game. How did we get them all signed to contracts at the same time? We are JUST.THAT.GOOD. You’re welcome.

Art Teacher
Florence MingoThe Flamingo
Goes by Flo. Florence stands on one leg when she is thinking, which is always. She has opinions about color she will share whether you asked her or not. If you draw your family and it looks like a pile of alligators with hair, she will tell you. Her students are identifiable by the paint on their elbows and the tears in their eyes. Flo believes art is everywhere, all around us. She is this close to cracking the Louvre heist, and is a proud member of the D.A.R. — Daughters of the Atlantic Riviera. When not lecturing at The Wonder, she splits her time between Palm Beach, Palm Springs and The Palm Restaurant.

History Teacher
Theodore WreczThe Dinosaur
Theodore — T. to his friends — came to us after his tail destroyed most of the exhibits on the 2nd Floor of the Natural History Museum. The oldest member of the faculty by a considerable margin. T. gets emotional on digs. He once wept openly when a child unearthed a piece of amber, which he identified as being from the Cretaceous period, which is also when he was born. He takes history personally. You would too. Short arms are excellent for the delicate brush work needed during discoveries, which is why Professor T. prefers working alongside his smallest colleagues.

Gym Teacher
Bernard D’OudelleThe Bernedoodle
In his previous role as CEO of Burger Barn, Bernard was unfortunately let go when his uncontrollable love of scarfing down burgers led to an international shortage. It was then he decided moving his body was as important as putting burgers into it. Bernard believes the body is a musical instrument and recess is a curriculum. He has a PhD in happiness and sheds on everything. His class begins and ends with a group hug that has been known to run long. Nobody minds. Movement is medicine. Getting big feelings to move from the inside out is his superpower.

Music and Dance Teacher
Luna MagiqueThe Unicorn
Luna was on track to becoming a Principal ballerina at the ABT before her horn got stuck on some scenery and she was asked to leave. Never one to let a hard time get her down, she was packing up her ballet shoes when she received Sarah’s telegram inviting her to join The Wonder team. Luna teaches music the way weather teaches you things — by simply surrounding you with it until you understand. Her dance class has no wrong moves. There is only the music and what you do with it. She believes strongly in the power of dancing it out.

Home Economics Teacher
Wilder Du NorthéThe Yeti
Wilder came down from the mountains specifically because he had things to teach about food. He is enormous and surprisingly precise and believes cooking is just chemistry with better outcomes. He once ate an entire soufflé he was supposed to be grading. He gave it an A. The idea of delicate French pastry baking in the oversized hands of a yeti might raise some eyebrows. Luckily this guy understands the alchemy of cold butter and croissants, and he’s willing to share — his knowledge and his treats. Wilder studied at Le Cordon Bleu, where he was the only yeti in his class. He graduated with honors. He has not stopped trying to prove it since.

English Teacher
Ella Mennow-PeahThe Peacock
Quite literally. English. As in the Queen’s. Technically a peahen (that’s P-E-A-H-E-N), Ella fans her feathers when a child spells something correctly. She fans them even wider when they spell something incorrectly but with great confidence. She believes language is the first magic any child learns, and that the alphabet is, indeed, where everything begins: L, M, N, O, P. She won the Golden International Spelling Pea competing against the world’s top Ps — peacocks, peahens, peafowl, pea gravel, The Black Eyed Peas and Peabo Bryson.
